You may have already had therapy or be considering it for the first time. Regardless the aim of each session is to provide a welcoming, safe place where you feel confident and comfortable in sharing your concerns.
In the first session an initial consultation, an assessment, will be provided. This will give you an opportunity to discuss current difficulties in a confidential setting with a view to the therapist understanding how they can best support you in the work. You will be asked questions in order to establish this and a therapeutic plan will be discussed with you in order to agree how best to achieve your therapeutic aims. You will also be given an opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns about the work.
In between sessions you may be asked to consider and process what has been discussed. In addition recommendations for activities may be made for you to carry out outside of session. As such therapy is an active process which you are encouraged to participate in.
The number of sessions required depends on the concern and progress made. The minimum amount of sessions usually required is six. However, some people attend therapy on an ongoing basis as they find it particularly helpful in managing their day to day well-being. Therapy usually takes place on a weekly basis however your needs will be taken into consideration and sometimes a different attendance schedule will be put in place.
A review of the work will normally take place at session four so that we can discuss progress, what is working and look at how we plan the next stage or final piece of the work.
Each therapy session usually last 60 minutes.
